Linocut is a type of relief printmaking using a linoleum block that is made of linseed oil, wood flour, and held together with a jute backing. The image is carved by hand with carving tools which is then ready for a layer of relief ink to be transferred onto paper. This is how a hand-carved print is made!

There are many tools that can be used for this process. I used Pfeil brand carving tools in various sizes and shapes.

I like to use thin Japanese papers such as Awagami Kozo. In addition to the Japanese papers, I also print on Somerset Satin papers sourced from the UK. Thin paper allows an easier transfer which helps capture those smaller details. I use Cranfield Calico safe wash relief inks vs traditional inks. This allows the use of zero solvents when cleaning my block and brayer.

Before purchasing, please note that I do not use plastic in my shipping materials. Each print is carefully wrapped in acid-free glassine paper, sandwiched between sturdy cardboard, and placed inside a rigid mailer, or shipping tube inside a custom box for extra protection. If you do not have any covered areas at your location, please ensure this before your print arrives.
